Equipment:
The PPMS (Physical Property Measurement
System), corresponds to a latest-technology
system by Quantum DesignTM (QD) for the
characterization of materials. The objective
of the system is that of making measurements
on a variety of samples (in pellet form,
powders, monocrystals, thin film, etc.)
over a broad range of temperatures and in
the presence of an applied magnetic field.
The characteristic of the system’s
open architecture permits autonomous control
of all measurement parameters. It is a versatile
lab instrument, which easily adapts to most
experiments that can be conducted at low
temperatures. The PPMS can be set up to
carry out measurements of: heat capacity,
magnetism, and thermal and electric transport
applications, among others. Additionally,
one of the potentials of the equipment lies
in that, in some cases, different types
of measurements can be made simultaneously,
which permits fulfilling different necessities
of the researcher.
