Description of
Equipment:
The Scratch Test, Microtest MTR2 equipment
permits scratch test son thin films and
bulk materials to determine wear on materials
and film adhesion. The scratch is done through
a diamond-tip indenter, applying an increasing
or constant variable load until the layer
detaches from the substrate. This method
is of high utility, requiring no special
preparation of the samples; furthermore,
it is a test that permits obtaining quantitative
results of adhesion and wear, which are
basic and important in industry and research.
The minimum or critical load at which the
coating detaches is used as the measurement
of adherence of the film to the substrate.
